Our vision is for people working at Lion Nathan to be as healthy and safe as possible.

We aim to achieve our ultimate target of zero occupational incidents by engaging and involving our people, increasing our safety capabilities, maintaining shared responsibility and individual accountability, and providing systems that support individual as well as business objectives.

Our injury prevention, management and rehabilitation programmes in all business units are based on the AS/NZS 4801 standard.

Across the group we have in place a number of programmes aimed at keeping our people safe at work. They include the Postural Education Programme where participants, in groups of two, are assessed by an exercise physiologist who determines how each person can improve their posture and improve core stability; the Warm Up for Work Programme which involves an exercise physiologist watching the work being done in the packaging, warehouse and utilities areas and designing a pre-work stretching programme; the Ergonomic Hazard Management Programme which aims to reduce the risk of injury within the brewhouse due to manual handling; pedestrian safety progammes which include the provision of high visibility clothing and designated safe pedestrian access zones around the site; and many, many more.

We look to engage our people in managing health and safety at their workplace, with safety committees or teams set up at all major operational sites. We involve our people in the processes of hazard identification and risk assessment and run health and safety awareness seminars to hieghten the level of understanding around such issues.

Though we place significant focus on safety, we also acknowledge the benefits of taking a broader approach to the health and well-being of our people and of promoting a good life balance.

A number of sites offer glucose (diabetic) testing, blood pressure checks, cholesterol testing and smoke free support if requested. These are in addition to our existing wellness initiatives that include flu vaccinations and the availability of personal trainers at major sites to help provide gym instruction.

Feedback on these initiatives is extremely positive, as our people feel that Lion Nathan really does take an interest in their health and wellbeing and are here to support them 24/7.
